A trip to Dublin

So last week we got to make a trip to Dublin. Our friends Chris and Angela Sealy were hosting "the Strongman of Australia - Mark Woods" at their church in Blanchardstown and we wanted to see the show and go to the revival service. It was worth the trip!

Mark does a great show of feats of strength interwoven with his testimony. He really gets the audience involved, challenging them to try and do what he is doing. Here they were attempting to rip phone books in half.

Here he is lowering an axe to his forehead - and he's added weights to it!

and here was our favorite - he bent a steel rod, in his mouth! We got to take this piece home with us!

The best part of the evening came at the end when he spoke about the true answer for life that comes not from our own strength but from coming to Jesus - 4 precious people responded to the call and gave their lives to Christ!

The next day we got to do some amazing sight seeing. Chris and Angela drove us up into the mountains. It was so unbelievably gorgeous - my photos don't do it justice, but I'm going to share them anyways!

I'm so looking forward to getting a car and being able to explore more of this beautiful country!

Cork is fun

I love cities that have lots of things going on. I grew up in a verrrrrry small town, Wellfleet, Massachusetts. It's a beautiful place, and I loved it in the summertime. It has some of the best beaches in the world (in my humble opinion.)

In the summer Wellfleet has a population of about 20,000, but in the winter it was about
 2,000 people.....not much to do.

For the past 11 years I've lived in Vilnius, Lithuania, population 500,000. It's about as different from Wellfleet as you could get. One thing I appreciated about living there was all the events that the city put on year round. There were street music festivals, craft fairs, world food days, many different holiday bazaars, and sport tournaments.   

Cork is somewhere in between. The population here is 120,000, but it seems to have a lot going on. Friday the city had a "Night of Culture". They had events going on all over the downtown. Bands were playing all over, art museums were open free of charge, bizarre huge puppet like creatures were dancing, old movies were being shown.....it was a lot of fun.

                 

Saturday morning we checked out the local farmer's market - I was excited to learn it runs every Saturday year round!

And Sunday there was a community family fun fair in our neighborhood - no pictures of that though!
I've seen advertisements for many upcoming events in Cork. I'm looking forward to them as it's a great way to be able to meet people.

Where Am I???

I'm sorry that there haven't been any posts lately on Kerri In Cork, but that's because Kerri hasn't been in Cork lately. Right after my last post we went to London.

and Keith got to preach in Walthamstow.

The next day we flew to Holland for the healing crusade and conference.

 The tent crusade was awesome, so many people made decisions for Christ, and so many were healed.

 

We stayed in the Ikea concept hotel in Delft. Everything in the hotel came from Ikea. It felt like you were sleeping in the showroom.

 

 

Somebody special celebrated his 46th birthday in Holland.

 

After the conference it was back to Ireland for 3 days. It was a busy crazy few days, but it was great because in those 3 days we were able to obtain our visa!

 

Then we were off to America for 3 1/2 weeks. Our plan was to help my mother-in-law remodel her kitchen. We'd never done that before, but thought "how hard could it be?" I've seen so many out in  blogland.

                                                 We spent way too much time in Home Depot, but the end results were worth it. I will post pics soon....This guy got his driving license.

                                                                               

We also got to do some traveling and see some friends in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Florida, New York, and of course Massachusetts! I'm tired and really looking forward to getting back to Cork - but it was a great trip.
                                                                           
                        

Most Welcome Guests!!!

Monday we had our first visitors to our new home in Cork. Our old friends, the Taylor's from Belfast,

                                              and our new friends, the Sealy's from Dublin,
                                              came to stay at "Camp Sullivan."

                                          

We had a great time with them all, barbecuing, eating, talking, laughing and exploring Cork.

We have a new home!

Well, it's been a crazy couple of days. Monday we spent the day looking at apartments all over the city. It was a bit insane, driving on the left hand side of the narrowest roads that you've ever seen, trying to obey our GPS navigation system and its crazy commands "turn left","turn right." The apartments were "interesting." It really is amazing how good something can look in an internet listing, and how different it can be in real life! By late afternoon we were pretty discouraged, so we stopped for some caffeine encouragement :)  I love coffee shops with free wi-fi! We decided to widen our search a bit and found a few more promising prospects. One of them agreed to let us see the house that same day. It was sooooo much better than anything else we had seen, and we were desperate to get it.

                                                                              

We filled out the application and left a deposit, and then the waiting games began....See, our furniture was on its way from Lithuania, and the trucking company was e-mailing us with urgent requests for the address to bring our things to. We had lined up a storage unit just in case we didn't have an address by the time they arrived, but that was going to be a huge hassle if we had to go that route. Finally Wednesday afternoon we got a call that the owners wanted to meet us and interview us. They must have liked us because they gave us the okay and we were able to sign the lease and get the keys on Thursday! Then we spent the day waiting for the truck......

                                                                          
.....and when we woke up the next morning - there they were! Then the rush was on to unload our stuff.

                                                                                  

Thank God that the truck driver and his wife helped us to unload (a very nice Lithuanian couple.)

We're in Cork!!!

We're here!

Us, and our 6 suitcases, and 2 carry-ons.

We've spent the last few days trying to find a place to live. That's a challenge anywhere you go, but it was particularly interesting here with driving on the other side of the road, and the very narrow streets and some very crazy hills. I have good news though - we found a place and we'll go to sign the lease this morning! I don't know when I'll have internet, but when I do I will post some photos.
